To create a video game one must create an objective and rules for the player to follow. If the player breaks the rules they will lose the game. For example, in the Rocket game we are creating, the point of the game is to make it to the moon, and avoid an asteroid field. The spawner's in the picture release space rocks at random intervals for the player to dodge. A rule in the game is to not be hit by a space rock. If the player is hit with a space rock they will not make it to the moon as a result they will lose the game. Without the rules the game will not be fun to play because it would be too easy to win. Game mechanics are the backbones of video games and without game mechanics it would not be possible to create a video game.
